1. Introduction to cPanel Solo® License

The cPanel Solo® license allows WHM users to manage a single cPanel account from the WHM interface. It is designed for users who want to upgrade from shared hosting to a single‑account cloud hosting solution at a lower cost. However, this license includes several functional limitations compared to a standard cPanel & WHM license.

Warning: The Solo license restricts many WHM features and requires cPanel & WHM version 66.0.25 or later.

2. Downgrading to a cPanel Solo License

Currently, only cPanel Certified Partners with fixed packages can downgrade to a Solo license. The Solo package does not support auto‑scaling during the billing cycle and must be scaled manually.

3. Removed Interfaces in cPanel Solo

Servers using a Solo license will not display the following WHM interfaces:

3.1 Security Center

  • Compiler Access — Controls access to C/C++ compilers.

3.2 Reseller Interfaces

  • Modify an Account (formerly Change Ownership)
  • Change Ownership of Multiple Accounts
  • Email All Resellers
  • Manage Reseller’s IP Delegation
  • Manage Reseller’s Shared IP
  • Reset Resellers
  • View Reseller Usage and Manage Account Status

3.3 Account Information

  • List Suspended Accounts

3.4 Account Functions

  • Email All Users
  • Manage Account Suspension

3.5 Multi‑Account Functions

  • Change Multiple Sites’ IP Addresses
  • Modify/Upgrade Multiple Accounts

3.6 Transfers

  • Convert Addon Domain to Account

3.7 System Health

  • Background Process Killer

3.8 cPanel

  • Modify cPanel & WHM News
  • Reset a Mailman Password
  • Synchronize FTP Passwords

Note: To access these features, upgrade to a full cPanel & WHM license.

4. Modified Interfaces in cPanel Solo

4.1 Account Functions

The Create a New Account interface is available but limited. If you already have one account, attempting to create another will show:

Account Creation Status: failed
Creating the account would exceed the number of licensed users. Please upgrade your license and try again.

4.2 Tweak Settings

The following settings are hidden:

  • Display » Number of accounts per page
  • Domains » Allow cPanel users to create subdomains across accounts
  • Domains » Allow WHM users to create subdomains across accounts

4.3 Reseller Privileges

The Edit Reseller Nameservers and Privileges interface hides:

  • Packages
  • Package Access
  • Package Creation

5. Introduction to cPanelID

cPanelID is a unified login system that allows users to authenticate across multiple cPanel services using a single set of credentials. It is based on OpenID® standards.

5.1 Where You Can Use cPanelID

  • The cPanel Store
  • The cPanel Tickets system
  • The Manage2 billing system
  • cPanel, WHM, or Webmail accounts linked via External Authentication

Note: You cannot navigate from your server to the cPanel Store without logging in again.

6. How to Obtain a cPanelID

All cPanel & WHM license owners automatically have a cPanelID. cPanel, WHM, or Webmail users must register manually.

6.1 Registration Methods

  • Click Log in via cPanelID in the login interface, then click Register.
  • Visit the cPanel Tickets System Registration page and enter your email.

6.2 Account Management

  • Update profile details in the cPanel Store.
  • Reset passwords via the Tickets System Registration page.

7. cPanelID and External Authentication

External Authentication allows linking a cPanelID to cPanel, WHM, or Webmail accounts for seamless login.

Requirements

  • You must access WHM/cPanel/Webmail via SSL.
  • If SSL is not used, the Log in via cPanelID option will not appear.

Administrators can disable the cPanelID External Authentication provider in:

WHM » Security Center » Manage External Authentications

Notes

  • 2FA and External Authentication can be used together.
  • If the external provider uses 2FA, users must authenticate twice.
  • Users can purchase SSL certificates via the SSL/TLS Wizard without linking cPanelID.

8. cPanelID and cPanel Store Referral Fees

Resellers earn referral fees for certificates purchased through the cPanel Store. If you do not want to link the root user to cPanelID, transfer customers to a reseller account.

Steps to Transfer Customers

  • Create a reseller account via Create a New Account.
  • Assign privileges via Edit Reseller Nameservers and Privileges.
  • Transfer customers via Reseller Center.

Be mindful of reseller resources such as shared IPs, nameservers, and custom packages.

Conclusion

The cPanel Solo® license provides an affordable single‑account hosting solution but includes significant WHM limitations. Meanwhile, cPanelID simplifies authentication across cPanel services and integrates with external authentication systems. Understanding these features helps administrators manage accounts and licensing more effectively.
