1. Introduction to KernelCare

KernelCare automatically updates your Linux kernel without requiring a reboot. WHM servers allow you to purchase a KernelCare license directly from the Security Advisor interface.

Important Notes:

  • Ensure your system uses a compatible kernel before purchasing. Refer to the official KernelCare documentation.
  • If Secure Boot is enabled, you must disable it before installing KernelCare.
  • Supported operating systems include CentOS 7, RHEL 7, CloudLinux, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, and Ubuntu.

2. Purchase a KernelCare License from WHM

To begin the purchase process, follow these steps on the target server:

Step 1: Log in to WHM

Log in as the root user or a reseller with root-level privileges.

Step 2: Open Security Advisor

Navigate to:

WHM » Home » Security Center » Security Advisor

Step 3: Start the Purchase

Find the alert labeled Upgrade to KernelCare and click Get KernelCare. This opens the cPanel Store.

Important:

If the alert does not appear, one of the following may apply:

  • Your virtual server does not support KernelCare (e.g., OpenVZ or Virtuozzo).
  • Your kernel is unsupported.
  • Secure Boot is enabled.
  • Your hosting provider disabled KernelCare purchases.
  • A trial KernelCare license already exists.

Step 4: Log in to the cPanel Store

If already logged in, verify the correct username and server name, then click Allow Access.

Step 5: Complete the Purchase

The system automatically selects the correct license type and IP address. Only monthly licenses are available through WHM.

Review your order, accept the agreements, enter payment details, and click Pay Now.

After Purchase:

  • You will receive a confirmation message and invoice email.
  • The KernelCare banner will disappear from WHM.
  • If issues occur, the cPanel Store will display an error and may email you for assistance.

3. KernelCare Installation

Your server automatically downloads and installs KernelCare after purchase. To verify installation, return to:

WHM » Home » Security Center » Security Advisor

The KernelCare notice will confirm successful installation.

4. Purchase Through Manage2

Only cPanel Partners can purchase KernelCare licenses through Manage2.

Steps:

  • Log in to Manage2.
  • Navigate to Dashboard » Licenses » Add License.
  • Enter the server IP, group, license type, and term.
  • Click Add License to complete the order.

5. Purchase from the cPanel Store

Step 1: Log in

Log in to your cPanel Store account and go to:

Store » Extensions

Step 2: Add KernelCare to Cart

  • Click Order Now on the KernelCare card.
  • Enter your server’s IP address.
  • Click Continue to proceed to checkout.

Step 3: Complete the Purchase

Important: Monthly licenses require a stored primary credit card.

  • Accept the EULA.
  • Select a payment method: stored card, new card, or PayPal.
  • Click Complete Order.

After Purchase:

You will receive a confirmation email containing installation instructions. Follow the email or refer to the official How to Install KernelCare documentation.
